The lesson
You already know how to add pence and take pence away. Now you will use those same skills on money problems: working out the total cost of things, giving change, and finding out how much more you need.
Mia buys a sticker for 20p and a pencil for 15p. To find the total cost, she adds the two prices: 20 + 15 = 35p.
After you work out change, check it. Add the change back to the price you paid. If the total matches what you handed over, your answer is right.
Sam has 40p. He wants a toy car that costs 60p. He subtracts to find out how much more he needs: 60 - 40 = 20p more.
Add prices to find totals, subtract to find change, and subtract again to see how much more money you need.
