The lesson

You already know how to read a clock and tell time to the minute. Now let's learn two facts that make time easier: how many minutes make one hour, and how many hours make one whole day.

The minute hand goes all the way around the clock once. That trip takes 60 minutes, and 60 minutes is 1 hour.

Try it together

Grace watches a show that lasts 60 minutes. She says, 'That show lasted exactly 1 hour!' She is right, because 60 minutes and 1 hour are the same amount of time.

A whole day, from midnight to the next midnight, has 24 hours.

Good to know

Here is a trick: for any number of hours, multiply by 60 to get minutes. Two hours is 60 + 60, which is 120 minutes.

One hour is 60 minutes, and one day is 24 hours.
