Recognise and use thousandths; relate them to tenths, hundredths, and their decimal equivalents (e.g. 1/1000 = 0.001, 35/1000 = 0.035)
What a learner can do afterwards

The lesson
You already know tenths (0.1) and hundredths (0.01). Cut a hundredth into 10 even smaller pieces, and each piece is a thousandth. A thousandth is written 0.001, or as the fraction 1/1000.
Priya measures 0.035 liters of medicine. She checks the digits after the point: 0 tenths, 3 hundredths, 5 thousandths, which is 35 thousandths in all. As a fraction, that is 35/1000.
Count the digits after the decimal point. Three digits means thousandths, so 0.006 is 6 thousandths, not 6 hundredths.
Three decimal places means thousandths, and one hundredth is worth 10 thousandths.
