Feelings Change and Differ

Understand that everyone has feelings, that feelings change throughout the day, and that the same event can make different people feel different things

What a learner can do afterwards

  • Give an example of a time their feelings changed during a single day
  • Explain why two children might feel differently about the same event
  • Recognise that feelings are temporary and can change

The lesson

You feel many things in one day. You might feel happy, then worried, then calm again. That is normal. Feelings come and go.

Try it together

Mia woke up excited. It was her birthday. At school she felt shy when friends sang to her. By dinner she felt happy and tired. Her feelings changed all day.

Morning: excitedSchool: shyDinner: happy and tired
Mia's feelings changed as her birthday went on, one feeling at a time.
Try it together

Ben and his sister saw a big spider. Ben felt curious and leaned in close. His sister felt scared and ran away. Same spider, two different feelings.

Good to know

There is no wrong feeling. You and a friend can feel different things about the same event. Both feelings are okay.

Feelings change all day, and people feel differently about the same event.
