The lesson
When you have a problem to solve, don't grab the first idea that comes to mind. Think of at least three different solutions. Then compare them to see which one really fits what you need.
Kai wants to build a bridge for his toy cars. The goal is to hold as many cars as possible, using only ten craft sticks and tape. He tries three plans: a flat bridge holds 2 cars, an arched bridge holds 5, and a layered bridge holds 3. Kai compares the numbers against his goal and picks the arched bridge, since it holds the most cars while still fitting inside the ten-stick limit.
To compare solutions: list every idea, check each one against the criteria and constraints, then pick the one that fits best and be ready to say why.
