What a learner can do afterwards

  • Name the main stages of human development: baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, elderly
  • Describe key changes at puberty (growth spurt, body changes)
  • Explain that old age brings changes like reduced strength, greying hair, and slower healing

The lesson

Every person moves through stages as they grow older, from a tiny baby all the way to an elderly adult. At each stage, the body changes in size, strength, and ability.

This is the order everyone moves through: baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, then elderly.

One of the biggest changes happens during puberty, when a child becomes a teenager. The body has a growth spurt and grows taller fast, and other body changes begin too.

Try it together

Jordan is twelve. This year he grew two inches and needed new shoes twice. His voice also got a little deeper. These are signs that Jordan has started puberty.

Good to know

In old age, the body slows down. Muscles are not as strong as before, hair often turns grey, and cuts take longer to heal. These changes are a normal part of growing older.

Every human passes through the same stages, baby to toddler to child to teenager to adult to elderly, with big changes at puberty and in old age.

Then practise

8 questions wait behind this lesson, each with its answer explained. Every answer feeds the sky: stars light as they are learned, and dim when it is time to come back.
