The lesson
Plant cells and animal cells are both alive, so they share some of the same basic parts. Every plant cell and animal cell has a nucleus, cytoplasm, a cell membrane, and mitochondria. These parts do the same jobs in both kinds of cells.
Take a leaf cell and a skin cell. Both have a nucleus controlling the cell, and both have mitochondria making energy. Look inside either one and you find the same basic toolkit for staying alive.
Plant cells also have three extra structures animal cells don't have: a cell wall, a large vacuole, and chloroplasts.
Each extra part exists because plants live differently than animals. Plants can't move to find food, so chloroplasts capture sunlight to make their own. Plants have no skeleton, so a stiff cell wall holds each cell's shape and supports the whole plant. And since plants store water and nutrients rather than go looking for them, a big central vacuole works like a storage tank.
In a diagram, a rigid box shape with a big central bubble means a plant cell. An animal cell looks more round or irregular, with no wall around it.
Both cell types share a nucleus, cytoplasm, membrane, and mitochondria; only plant cells add a cell wall, vacuole, and chloroplasts for their sunlight-based, rooted way of life.
