The lesson

In a French class, the teacher says these words all day. asseyez-vous means sit down. levez la main means raise your hand.

écoutez means listen and regardez means look. répétez means say it again, or repeat.

When the class is loud, the teacher says silence s'il vous plaît, which means quiet please. If you need the bathroom, you ask est-ce que je peux aller aux toilettes, which means may I go to the bathroom.

Good to know

asseyez-vous sounds like ah-say-yay VOO. écoutez sounds like ay-koo-TAY.

Try it together

Play school at home. Say écoutez and regardez, and act each one out.

asseyez-vous means sit down, écoutez means listen, and levez la main means raise your hand.
