You know about knights and castles already. Now let's meet the ruler inside. A king or queen ruled the whole land. They made laws for everyone to follow. They led the army into battle. They collected taxes to pay for it all.
The Tower of London is a huge stone fort in England. Kings used it to guard treasure. It also held prisoners who broke royal laws.
King Richard the Lionheart ruled long ago in medieval England. He led his army into battle. He wore a crown and sat on a throne. People obeyed his laws.
A crown alone does not make someone a good ruler. A real king or queen also worked hard every day.
Kings and queens ruled the land, made laws, and used crowns, thrones, and forts to show their power.
