The lesson
When people earn money working, part of that money is called tax. Adults send this tax to the government. It is not a gift and it is not a fine. It pays for things every person in a town can use.
Ravi's little sister broke her arm and went to the hospital. The doctors who helped her get paid partly with tax money. Ravi also rides the school bus on roads that are built and fixed with tax money.
No single family could pay to build a whole hospital or fire station alone. Taxes work because many people each give a little, so together there is enough.
Taxes are money people pay so that schools, hospitals, roads, and emergency services can be there for everyone.
