The lesson
Every number up to 1000 is built from three parts: hundreds, tens, and ones. You already know which digit is which. Add the parts together to build the whole number, or take a number apart to see its pieces.
Leo has 4 hundreds, 3 tens, and 7 ones. He adds them: 400 + 30 + 7 = 437. Ana has 2 hundred-pound notes, 5 ten-pound notes, and 6 one-pound coins. She adds them too: 200 + 50 + 6 = 256 pounds.
Keep the parts in order: hundreds first, then tens, then ones. Mix up the order and you might write the wrong number, like 347 instead of 437.
