Duties and Rights: What You Owe Regardless of Outcome
A second family says some acts are forbidden whatever the results, because people are owed treatment they cannot be traded away from. This is where the language of rights, consent and dignity comes from.

Deontology puts duty first and outcomes second. You must not lie, cheat, or harm the innocent even when doing so would buy a better result. People are ends in themselves, never mere tools. A good will, choosing duty for its own sake, is what carries unconditional worth.
Using someone only as a means looks like this. Pocketing a stranger's wallet to fund your charity drive uses them without their say. That is why consent matters so much here. Touching or using someone without it treats them as an object. Kant gave the strictest test: act only on rules you could wish everyone to follow. Universal lying would destroy trust in words, including your own lie.
Run the same hospital choice as the results view. Even if lying to one patient would fund care for ten, duty says the lie is forbidden. The hard test is collision. A murderer at the door asks where your friend hides. Truthfulness points one way while protection points the other. No ranking of duties pleases everyone, and the theory never quite delivers one.
