The lesson

Sometimes you feel upset or overwhelmed. Your body feels shaky, hot, or tight. A calming strategy helps your body and mind settle down.

Counting slowly to ten gives your body time to calm down.
Try it together

Ben lost his board game and felt like yelling. He took three slow deep breaths instead. His body calmed down, and he could think again.

Good to know

If counting does not help, try going to a quiet space. Different strategies work for different people. It is okay to try more than one.

Deep breaths, counting, and quiet spaces help you calm down.
