Protein Structure from Primary to Quaternary
A protein's shape is described in four levels, from the order of amino acids up to several chains held together. Each level is kept by named bonds, and the finished shape decides what the protein can do.

You saw phospholipids line up tail to tail to build the cell membrane where proteins sit and work. A protein folds in four levels, and each level is held by its own bonds. Primary is the bare order of amino acids linked by strong peptide bonds. Secondary coils that chain into helices and sheets, held by hydrogen bonds between backbone parts. Tertiary folds everything into one compact 3D shape. Quaternary packs several folded chains together.
Change one link and the whole shape can shift. Sickle cell disease comes from a single swapped amino acid that makes haemoglobin fibres clump, bending red cells into sickles. The order of pieces decides the fold, and the fold decides the job. A tiny edit at the start can rebuild the ending.
Folding follows the side chains in order. Water fearing pieces dive inward, charged pieces seek partners on the surface, and the backbone hydrogen bonds wherever geometry allows. That precision is why enzymes grip one target and antibodies match one invader: unfold the chain and the talent vanishes.
Heat and acids wreck shapes without touching the order. Extra heat shakes hydrogen bonds and ionic grips apart, while acids recharge side chains so their attractions fail. The chain itself survives because peptide bonds are far tougher. That is why a fried egg never uncooks: folds lost, sequence kept.
Order writes the instructions, bonds hold each fold, and shape decides what the protein can do.
