The Tumour Microenvironment: Stroma, Hypoxia and Immune Exclusion
A tumour is a tissue rather than a bag of cancer cells, and its stroma, blood supply and immune infiltrate change how it grows and what a drug can reach. This stop reads a tumour section as a habitat with its own gradients.

You stop seeing a tumour as a bag of cancer cells and start seeing a tissue. Stromal partners feed and shield the mass without mutating themselves. The mass outgrows its blood supply, leaving oxygen starved cores where drugs arrive weakly and cells turn hardy.
You learn what low oxygen does. Hypoxia flips master switches that grow rough vessels, invite suppressor cells, and slow division so treatment bites less. It also rewires gene programs toward survival, which is why the same drug works in a dish and fails in a patient.
You compare two tumour sections. One is packed with killer cells through its core. The other holds attackers at the rim behind dense matrix and calming signals. You predict the first may shrink once brakes lift, while the walled off one will shrug.
You sort tumours into infiltrated versus excluded before you predict therapy. Infiltrated means killers already inside. Excluded means suppressor cells and matrix hold them at the rim. The neighborhood votes first, so you read the section before you trust the drug.
You read the stroma, the oxygen gradient, and the immune map, because the microenvironment decides what any drug can reach.
