All times tables to 12×12
Recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12
What a learner can do afterwards
- Recall any fact from the 1–12 times tables rapidly
- Recall the corresponding division fact for any multiplication fact
- Use known facts to check or derive answers in calculations
The lesson
You already know lots of times tables facts. Now it's time to make every fact up to 12 × 12 quick and automatic. Multiplication and division are a team: if you know one fact, you already know its partner fact too.
Zara needs to work out 108 ÷ 12. She thinks of the times table instead: 12 × 9 = 108. So 108 ÷ 12 = 9. Knowing the multiplication fact gave her the division fact for free.
If a fact won't come to you, build it from one you know. For 12 × 8, start with 10 × 8 = 80, then add two more 8s: 80 + 16 = 96.
Every times table fact up to 12 × 12 has a matching division fact, and you can always build a tricky fact from one you already know.
