First Aid You Can Actually Do
What a child can do while getting adult or emergency help: answer the call handler, give the incident location, keep firm pressure on a bleeding cut with no object stuck in it, and cool a heat burn under running water. Avoid unnecessary movement after a serious fall, while following instructions for immediate danger or lifesaving care.

Answer the handler's questions when you ring for help. Give the place early so help can be sent, then what happened and who is hurt. Stay on the line until they say you can go.
Firm pressure stops most bleeding. If nothing is stuck in the cut, press hard with a clean cloth and keep pressing without peeking. Never press on or pull out something stuck in a wound. If the bleeding will not stop, hold the pressure there. An adult needs to call for emergency help.
A heat burn or scald needs cool running water for a full 20 minutes. No ice, no butter, no creams. Lay cling film over it, or a clean cloth that is not fluffy, and keep the rest of them warm. Large burns, hand burns and blisters need an adult and medical advice.
Small clean cuts need clean hands, a rinse, and a plaster. Change it when wet. Red streaks or hot skin mean an adult must check.
After a bad fall or a blow to the head or back, or if someone is confused or will not wake, call an adult and emergency help. Ask them to stay still and do what the handler says. Move them only for danger or lifesaving help.
