Non-Communicable Disease and What Counts as a Risk Factor
Diseases that nobody catches still have causes, and those causes are usually a raised probability rather than a certainty. Separating a correlation in a population from a demonstrated mechanism in a body is the core skill here.

A risk factor raises the odds of a disease without guaranteeing it. Smoking, certain viruses or inherited variants load the dice but never force the roll. Doctors talk in risks, not certainties, for diseases nobody catches.
Separate a known mechanism from a bare correlation. Narrow or stiff vessels raise pressure, and high pressure damages walls, which raises risk further: the full chain is mapped. A correlation only shows two things rising together, with the connecting chain still missing.
Cancer starts when cell checkpoints fail and one cell divides without permission, again and again. The lump is called a tumour. A benign tumour stays put in its wrapper, while a malignant one invades nearby tissue and can spread, which is what makes it dangerous.
Acting on risks still matters. Lowering a risk factor lowers the chance of disease across a whole population, even though no single fate is fixed. When you argue a case, say whether the chain is known or only correlated.
Risks load dice, mechanisms map chains, tumours break checkpoints, and lowering risk lowers chances.
