Doctors describe each infection by how easily it passes on, how long it hides, and how much harm it does. Germs travel by routes with their own geography: coughs fill crowded rooms, unsafe water crosses whole neighbourhoods, and insects ferry disease where the climate suits them. Travel then carries sick people across the world in hours.
The same disease kills very different shares of people in two countries. Places with strong clinics, clean water, good food, and fast testing keep more patients alive. Crowded housing, poor sanitation, weak clinics, and slow case finding push death rates up.
Read a map of cases like a detective, not a judge. It shows where sick people were counted, not where each of them caught the germ. Health teams count cases, trace contacts, and watch whether numbers rise or fall after each measure.
Control means breaking the specific route between people. Ventilation and masks fight airborne spread, clean water stops waterborne illness, bed nets block insect carriers, and vaccines plus isolating the sick slow every route. Match the measure to the route.
