The lesson

Times tables are multiplication facts for the 2s, 5s, and 10s. Once you learn them, you do not have to count every time. You just remember the answer.

Try it together

Sam wants to know 5 × 3. He hops along the 5 times table: 5, 10, 15. Three hops of 5 lands on 15, so 5 × 3 = 15.

The 10 times table counts by 10: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50.

Good to know

Division facts hide inside times tables. If you know 5 × 4 = 20, you also know 20 ÷ 5 = 4 and 20 ÷ 4 = 5.
